Mat Wirove
Senior Legal Coach, Mediator
Mat Wirove practices exclusively in family law and is a certified legal coach who was previously a civil litigator for a top litigation firm in Calgary. This has given him significant experience working in the court system.
Mat is adept in all family law matters including divorce, child custody, guardianship, parenting, spousal support, child support, matrimonial property division, prenuptial agreements, cohabitation agreements, unjust enrichment, child protection, restraining orders and adoptions.
Mat believes strongly in a client centred practice and will work to get you the best results for your particular situation. If litigation is necessary he has the skills needed to fight for you in court. However, he understands that litigation may not always be in his client’s best interest, so he uses his negotiation skills to help families come to a negotiated settlement.
Mat takes pride in being open and honest with his clients about their situation. He firmly believes that people should be kept informed and up to date on their file as it progresses. Everyone’s situation is different and Mat will take time to get to know your needs before planning how to resolve your case.
Mat is passionate about advocacy and has taken many cases to trial. However, advocacy also means assisting families to resolve conflicts in a way that will result in long lasting and beneficial agreements. Mat believes that in general, families need a more cost effective and collaborative approach to resolving their disputes. There is also a therapeutic and educational outcome from mediation that assists families for long term solutions. This is why he trained as a mediator with the Alberta Family Mediation Society. His friendly approach combined with his rational, logical style and years of experience make him a strong mediator for your case.
When not in the office, Mat spends his time outdoors, camping, backpacking, kayaking, and fishing.
