Tanya Thakur is a litigation lawyer with a primary focus on family law.
She favours a measured and compassionate dispute resolution approach that suits each client’s unique needs. She believes in resolving matters out of court whenever possible. If court is the best alternative, she will persuasively advocate for her clients’ interests. Her goal is to protect her clients’ rights while minimizing the stress of litigation. She has appeared in the Provincial Court and Supreme Court of BC, including in family law trials. She also has experience drafting agreements and accompanying clients to mediation.
Tanya graduated from Peter A. Allard School of Law in 2018. Upon graduation, she articled at a personal injury firm in Vancouver prior to starting her own practice at Thakur MacNeill LLP.
She is passionate about providing legal services to those who need them. She volunteers with various community organizations, including Rise Women’s Legal Centre, Battered Women’s Support Services (BWSS), and Vancouver & Lower Mainland Multicultural Family Support Services Society (VLMFSS). As part of these volunteer services, she provides free legal advice and support to low-income families.
While in law school, she spent a full semester as a clinician at Rise Women’s Legal Centre where she assisted low-income women with their family law disputes. She received the Jack T. Edwards Memorial Award in Law for her dedication to helping clients in the clinical program.
She is fluent in Hindi.
In her spare time, she enjoys reading, practicing yoga, and spending time with her family and friends.
